for randomly having picked this,,, im so glad i did. parable of the sower vibes in the beginning hooked me. ya it gets a little messy and less engaging toward the end ... but i was previously hooked enough that i wanted to see how it ended.

the ending felt rushed and a little like a cliche (and corny too) after getting something so unique and raw at it’s heart. i wanted this book to be so much more than it was, and it’s like solomon kept wanting to take me there, but then just went “sorry, jk” and that’s how we went from a sex scene that symbolizes the birth of new love and life through the death of another to… whatever that shut up and drive car scene was trying to be.

part of me feels like i was being hypercritical of this book at times, but seeing how incredible it was in certain parts makes me feel valid in my criticism of other parts of it. it could’ve been so much more

There were parts of this book that were funny, especially Howling.

extremely cool & unique concept with so many facets to explore. new things coming in all the time. the characters were awesome, as always rivers solomon makes them feel like real, complete, plausible people. the plot was quite slow for the first quarter and i got very fed up but once it picked up it kept moving nicely and i couldn't put it down. at times it felt a little too on the nose with what it was saying, repeating certain things that were already obvious, and that kind of killed it/was annoying throughout for me.

Truly wonderful. It is sci-fi but in such an organic way you almost forget. The characters are so real. Flawed, relatable engaging. The way the plot unraveled was easy to follow but also gave thriller vibes as you are unlocking the mystery with Vern. There is a lot of trauma to navigate but also lots of laughter and love too. It has spice scenes but they didn't feel over the top and fit within the story. It doesn't have a sad ending which I appreciated. Many quotes I loved so much. Will definitely buy and reread and loan it out. So good.

It’s ok. In my opinion, the book started off strong and then it wanted to fit too much backstory in the last few chapters.
