In India Holtton's madcap world of flying houses, witchcraft, and not-so-secret secret societies of course there would be an agency spying on them both. As always, expect a lot of gags (like the Q-like gadget specialist who is quite terrible at his job and creates things that are useless). Also expect pop-ins from favorite characters from the previous books and a new contentious pair with off-the-charts chemistry. Outside of that though, this was probably the weakest link of the three I've read so far. As good as it was to see Bixby again (the ruthlessly competent butler with loads of secrets) Alice Dearlove was way too much of a hot mess for someone who is supposed to be the best agent at A U. N. T. Especially since she seems almost coded as a neurodivergent character I feel like she deserved a chance to shine as much as Charlotte and Cecilia before her.
I always say that I can find some forgiveness for a well-worn trope/plotline if it's done well, but I can't fully say that happened here. In this, Alice and her topmost competitor are thrust together on the same mission impersonating... wait for it--a married couple, which is about as worn as you can get. While I would have loved to see some alternative where they actually performed at their promised competency, they make a hash of it and the only salvageable bit left is their chemistry. All that said, I feel like if you're reading one of Holtton's books in this world you're pretty confident in knowing what you get so I doubt her loyal Wisteria readers will be too disappointed.

I know I keep giving her 5’s but I’m just a sucker for the play on words, the love, and the cute stories. Super satisfying end to the series!

Yep, that was about as delightful as I was expecting, and about as silly as I was expecting, and all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was looking forward to these two characters, and the James-Bondian shenanigans (and jokes) did not disappoint, alongside their very solid emotional arcs (and neuro-spicy depiction).
