This was funny and cute. I would have liked more spy craft and a little less romance but that’s just my preference. That said there is maybe a bit too much going on in this one. There’s one sub plot that really doesn’t add much and I think could have been removed with no major impact.

Swoony

There's just too much going on in this one to make sense of. Steampunk Victorian flying houses, pirates, witches, and now servants who are secretly spies with parkour powers...I think this one reads better than the previous two, but the Victorian servant spy plotline would have been enough of a twist on the otherwise standard romance novel.

So adventurous! I really love the idea of writing essentially a more steamy Jane Austen-esque romance (plus pirates and witches). Holton is an incredibly witty writer, and the jokes come fast. I loved this style of writing, but I definitely have to be more engaged with Holton’s writing when I listen to it than a traditional modern romance. I find myself rewinding quite a bit. I think this is more a comment on how my brain works and less on the writer’s skill. Having read the trilogy now, I’m excited to read more from Holton! Highly recommend this series - the second book especially! That was my fave.
