Loved this, ready to read the next book in the series
slow-paced
DNF at page 245.
I hate the nickname "songbird."
Jamie's relationship with his mother seriously gives me the ick. It's toxic and makes my skin crawl.
The ego on this guy to think his ex-girlfriend gave up her entire career and future all because he dumped her is astounding. And to use that as a reason to never date again is bullshit. Especially since his reason really just comes down to the fact that he spends every waking moment thinking about his mom in some form or another and if not her, then sleeping with Pippa.
And the fact that I'm nearly 60% of the way into the book and we're still talking about Zach and how messed up Pippa is from him is just bothering me. I get it. She spent years with him and took a huge hit in the confidence and self-esteem department. He was an ass and stole her music because he knew she was talented and was jealous. But the amount of focus put into Pippa thinking about him made this feel like it should have just been a love triangle (and I don't read that trope for a reason). And Pippa forcing herself to do things for her parents doesn't make sense to me. She's an adult and clearly has an entirely different idea of how she wants to live her life than they do. She's out there being an assistant, not living with them...so I'd say she's already doing her own thing. Which means they are not that controlling. I'm pretty sure a simple sit-down conversation with them would fix her problem. It would be uncomfortable but better than taking a job for the next 20 years she hates just to please them.
Maybe it's just timing. Maybe I'll pick this up again at some point and try to finish it and end up liking it. But right now, it feels like both main characters are very unlikable to me with a crap ton of issues that they need to talk to a professional about (mommy issues, lack of confidence) and the only thing between them is lust and severe lack in ability to control their own bodies when faced with someone attractive.

This book had me giggling and kicking my feet so much!!!
He’s a pro hockey player and she is hired to be his assistant— SURPRISE!! They both had crushes on each other in HS. But she was with “Zach” (queue manchild by Sabrina carpenter here for Zach) who ruined Pippa’s confidence… but Jamie’s competitive nature says that he WILL fix that.
Jamie is the ultimate book boyfriend - he has def made my list this year 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
