My memories of this trilogy have faded, but I remember there being a lot of reliance on humor and there was swashbuckling, band-of-brothers vibe to the mercenaries that was fun. I think my disappointment was in finally meeting Shaku and being underwhelmed. I wanted a real Jamuraan novel about the Mirage/Visions set, so to get a single reference was a letdown.

Otherwise, Clayton Emery was the only prerevisionist author to be given books in the new continuity, and he did a great job of tying interesting cards and tidbits from the 'Legends' expansion. I had the 'Magic the Gathering Encyclopedia' at the time and loved checking back and forth from his text to the actual cards.
