While I enjoyed the information on Hygge and the Danish philosophy of living and community, I found the repetitive writing boring. They same information would be presented over and over with little variety from one idea to the next. You could pick it up, read one chapter and know the basics of every chapter. This book could have been a blog post.

With so many books popularizing hygge it can sometimes feel like hygge itself is lost in the hustle and bustle of publishing. I did not feel that way with this book. Inside you will not find a quick-fix remedy for the frustrations of life. Rather it is a reflective slow paced book that embodies hygge as a writing style. It is exhaustive yet contemplative. It encourages you to sit in the pages with a warm cup of tea and a cozy blanket. It encourages you to consider the depths of acceptance, mindfulness, connection and rest in the peace they afford. I am so thankful this book found me at my local library. And so thankful I accepted the challenge to read it and just be. Happy reading!

My rating does not reflect the ideas presented in this book. Many of the analogies the author presents are lovely, and invoke that sense of hygge in the reader. However, the writing tended to be repetitive and verbose, as well as unnecessarily complicated in verbiage. This was not an easy book to read, and not in a way that encouraged mindful reading either. I had to pay close attention or risk being lost in the metaphors and somewhat over-complicated wording. I like many of the quotes she chose, and the addition of hyggelige pictures was nice as well.
