Very different from the other books in the series. We all decided 4/5 because we loved the stories, but like his normal quest books better :)

This was adorable! I loved seeing all of these characters get a little more fleshed out. Excited to read more about the Scandian/Arulean boy.

These short stories were so good! I loved their witty yet serious tone, and it was such a good way to initially say goodbye to the series.

I love these as perfect for the target audience. As an adult reader, I can see the flaws, but they are still a lot of fun to read. And even though these are books with male protagonists, I really love that the female characters became quite important to the stories as the series went on - not always visible in this collection (although one story stands out as being particularly good in this regard), but in the series itself, a pleasant surprise!

I finally got around to reading this and it reminded me of HOW MUCH I love this series. I’ve not read any of the Ranger’s Apprentice books since the 10th one came out 9 years ago and now I have a sudden urge to go back and reread the whole series because dang it’s good and I love the whole Ranger’s Apprentice universe and all the characters so so much.

For any avid readers of the Ranger's Apprentice series please disregard this review because this is the only book of the series I have read. Obviously, the 11th book is not the best place to start but I had it on hand so why not read it. Despite the fact that I started on the 11th book, it wasn't bad. From what I gathered this book is a hodgepodge of missing endings or other short adventures that John Flanagan put together for questions that fans had asked.
The Rangers are an elite group of royal knights that are trained to have almost inhuman reflexes and fighting ability, they also have seemed to have an odd attachment to their noble steeds that accompany them on their adventures (to the point that they have full conversations with their horses). Most of the book takes place after a great battle where a rebellion tried to take over the kingdom from the king who had lost his mind, but his son came to the rescue and saved the kingdom. Stories that cover of the background of the horses chosen for the Rangers and how Holt came to be a ranger are some examples of what John Flanagan goes over.

These stories were short, so there wasn’t nearly as much buildup as some of the books but I still really liked them. The author is very good at having likable characters and there are a lot of parts in there that were very funny. Highly recommended.
