Into the Dark Dimension is the third novel by Aconyte Books to tie into the Marvel Crisis Protocol Game universe. It sees the worlds greatest heroes team up to defeat the evil Dormammu and free the planet and universe from his insidious mind control. After almost completing his conquest of Earth, Dormammu now has a stranglehold on the minds of most citizens. Only a select few of managed to resist. Left with no choice Doctor Strange must reassemble the Shadow Avengers while Tony Stark gathers a team of amoral tech geniuses to cook up a tech defence that might be able to break the mind control. While the Shadow Avengers defend earth, against former heroes now under Dormammu’s control, Ms Marvel must enlist an unlikely ally to destroy the evil lurking within the Dark Dimension once and for all.
Into the Dark Dimension is the epic conclusion to the Crisis Protocol trilogy and my goodness does it end with a bang (a good one, not a bad one like the earth exploding or something like that!). As with the other two wonderful instalments, one by talented Stuart Moore and the other the marvellous Carrie Harris, this book reads just like it came right out of a comic. I don’t mean this in a bad way at all. What I mean is the action is something you would be forgiven for thinking could only possibly be depicted via a comic or the big (or small) screen but Moore manages to capture it perfectly in novel format.
We finally see the big finale, numerous characters from across the marvel universe interacting to try and save the planet and universe from Dormammu’s control. It is a brilliant adventure and captures the sense of cross over that you expect from the comic run annuals of old that used to feature cross overs. I particularly liked how we see some of the heroes if not most already defeated or rather succumb to the villain. It instantly built the suspense and reinforces just how deadly a foe those few who survive are facing. I found myself wanting to know more right away to see if they could win and what would happen to those who had lasted so far.
The characterisation of the cast was also brilliantly done. I liked to see the characters under Dormammu’s control interacting with those who had once been allies. It kept everything interesting, intense and fresh. This was a brilliant way to end the trilogy and really does keep you on the edge of your seat. You don’t have to played the Crisis Protocol games to enjoy this trilogy. In fact I would recommend any marvel fan be it via comics, games, movies or a mixture to pick this series up you will not be disappointed.

Book Summary:
Sometimes protecting the world doesn't go quite as planned. Take the battle against Dormammu. In an ideal situation, he never would have gotten such a strong foothold on the planet. Yet here he is, so close to conquering it.
To save the earth, different heroes must step up, creating new paths to victory. Doctor Strange must reassemble his team, the Shadow Avengers. Meanwhile, Tony Stark will focus on cooking up new technology (and the people to run it) to take the fight from a different direction. Ms. Marvel will seek out a new and unlikely ally.
My Review:
Honestly, there's little better than finding a new Marvel book to dive into. At least, that's how I feel about it! So when I saw Into the Dark Dimension sitting out in the world, I knew I had to snatch it up and try it. Okay, the fact that Stuart Moore wrote it significantly helped my motivation here.
Into the Dark Dimension is perfect for Marvel fans that have a deep appreciation of the complicated lore that is...well, Marvel in a nutshell. It's a lot, and that's not a bad thing. There are dozens of different characters weaving throughout the story, and not enough time to hold the reader's hands about their backstories. We have characters like Doctor Strange, Tony Stark, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Cloak, Dagger, the whole Guardians of the Galaxy crew, and Shang-Chi. And I'm confident I'm missing a few!
Thankfully, this is Stuart Moore we're talking about. The man has spent SO much time working in the depths of Marvel. So the balance between these characters is pretty well done, believe it or not.
I should probably mention that Into the Dark Dimension is based on the Marvel Crisis Protocol Game. So everything in this book is related to that universe, and thus isn't precisely the same as what is seen in the comics or movies.
