DNF. I lasted till page 105 untill I couldn't take it anymore. I was nearly a third of the way through this book and it feels as though nothing really has happened. The instalove is too thick in this book to be enjoyable and the interesting elements are drowned out by the focus on the romance/love debate. Interesting premise, poor execution.

This book was really good. Like REALLY GOOD. I couldn't put it down once I got it, because the plotline is so intriguing. The story is pretty impossible to describe without giving away major details of the book, so any fans of Aprilynne Pike should definitely read this, because it won't disappoint you at all.

Far out simply AMAZE-BALLS AWESOME!
Can't wait for the next book in the series *little girl screams* EEEEEEEEE!!

I really loved this book - and it was something different that I hadn't yet encountered in a YA book. Gripping, and sometimes surprising (sometimes not) - and delightful to read in ways that both made my heart yearn, and ache at the same time.

I was not a super fan of the choppy sentences, but I did remind myself that it was often in the verse of an older teen/young adult.

I won't say Earthbound is a favorite of mine by Aprilynne Pike but I definitely liked the story in general. It was intriguing and something sort of new. Only the romance didn't sit well with me.

The premise of the book was interesting for sure. A girl being the sole survivor of a plane crash that also killed her parents. Months later she's grieving and in therapy. It's then that very strange things start happening like having visions of a boy she feels drawn to. Soon she and her best friend (and crush) Benson start to unravel everything.

Tavia was an okay character. At time I liked her and at other times I liked her way less. The romance was probably my least favorite thing about this book. It was very cheesy and I just couldn't get why she liked Benson. And I'm not even going to dwell on the love triangle that was forming.

I'm not actually sure I want to read the sequel. At one hand of course I want to, to find out what happens next but on the other hand I'm not sure it's worth it. Yes, Earthbound was a very quick read, one that didn't take a lot of effort to finish but the romance was just not my thing.

All in all, Earthbound had good as well as bad things. The story overall wasn't half bad, but some decisions Tavia made were just dumb. The writing, though, was the best thing in this book. I've always loved Aprilyinne Pike's amazing writing.

I really liked the intrigue and romance in this. I found the story very engaging and love this idea for a series.

Pretty cool, 3 and a half stars

2.5/5 stars

Wow. Such a surprise! I really didn't think I'd love this book. Since Aprilynne Pike is a local author, her new books are an auto-library. I'll just mention a few goods and bads.

Pike really has a fettish with unusual character names. I'm not complaining. I just kept pronouncing Tavia wrong in my head every time. Good thing she couldn't hear me. Really though, what's up with the name Benson? Sorry, not a fan of that one.

Now what's keeping this book from 5 stars is the...insta love. Not only that...AND a love triangle. That's usually a major no-no when I'm picking a book. But I was (for once) able to get past that, since neither of the guys were really memorable, and because the story was very original. Unfortunately I didn't realize this was the beginning of a series until halfway through, when I thought this all couldn't possibly be resolved in 200 more pages..but I did read this book in one day. So that's gotta say something.

If you read the cover flap, the summary is pretty ambiguous. And now even after reading it, I still can't explain it very well. There's a sort of sci-fi future plague aspect, and then there's like old gods and reincarnations...it's a whole melting pot of the genres. As for twists and turns, don't even try to guess, because I lost count on how many times I thought I knew who were the good guys and bad guys.

Despite the mirrored cover that I'm starting to get over more and more each day, I definitely recommend reading this book.

A bit slow to pick up but genuinely intriguing, Earthbound introduces the reader to a world in need of help from our main character Tavia. While it took a bit to pick up, the book concludes with many questions answered but many more new answers to be found in the second and third book of this trilogy. An easy read that keeps you begging for more when you turn that last page.
