I was so intrigued the whole time. I could not put it down and the ending left me speechless
Alicia berenson shoots her husband in the face five times (ALLEGEDLY) and then goes completely mute which... honestly? girlboss behavior. Then there's Theo, a painfully awkward psychotherapist with daddy issues.
While alicia is locked up in a psych ward for going on a murderous rampage (ALLEGEDLY), theo becomes obsessed with alicia and decides he needs to help her speak again. in reality, he simply narrates every thought he’s ever had until she either talks or physically assaults him (she does both).... whatever works, I guess.
Great pacing. decent prose. massive twist. bonus points for alicia's commitment to not speaking to men unless it’s absolutely necessary.
minus half a star because theo thinks doing therapy is just journaling near someone until they get tired of your presence and confess murder.
Final rating : 3.5 stars

When sitting down to write this review, I honestly can't say if I quite enjoyed this book. It kept my attention, and I read it in a single day, but I am pretty meh on it.
Everyone mentions THE TWIST when referring to this book, so I read and read to get to THE TWIST just to find that I had figured out THE TWIST early on. I really did not enjoy being in the narrator's head and the setting of this book was a little too dark. Mental institutions are like one of the circles of hell in my opinion, so if I hadn't had this book recommended by so many people, I definitely would have dnf'ed it.
