midnight’s children has got to be one of the most confusing reads of all time for me—i’m thankful this isn’t a unique experience.
i would love to write a full review of this but unfortunately i have too many things to say and i should probably save those for the final paper for the class that assigned this book. very thought provoking read.

Dropped two stars on my second read through. This is not a fair rating. After all, this time around I even decided to give up and dnf this. Nevertheless given the tainted context of my reread it cannot be helped.
Of the book itself I have a more than fleeting distaste of what feels like overtly coarse foreshadowing. The narration feels heavy handed.
However, I did give this four stars once.. Perhaps it redeemed itself towards the end.

I started reading this book right after reading Jane Austen, so it took me more than a couple of pages to get used to the crude satire, but I quickly realised this book was going to be brilliant .
Rushdie reminded me a bit of Charles dickens , who also heavily used satire to expose the follies of society .
Going through the historic evolution or disintegration of India after independence through the life of the boy Saleem Sinai born at the stroke of independence formed a nice story line .
Rushdie has the ability to be profoundly serious and comical at the same time when narrating some serious events and serious issues relating to politics , religion , race , discrimination.
This book left me to ponder more deeply about , how as humans we don’t get to choose who , where and when and which social status in society we are born into , when those criteria’s basically pre-destines and limits or advances the course and path of our life to a large extent .
We don’t decide when it’s time to leave this journey either .
We only control to an extents the events that happen between these two starting points .Starting of life and starting of death .
Just made me wonder how frail and fragile a human life is and finishing this book it made me ponder more about God .
If we don’t have the control then surely someone else has it .

I think if I were to rate this book on how much I enjoyed it, it would fall to three stars. However, the sheer monument of it, the moving gears and mechanisms that somehow hold it together, deserves five. So, I split the difference.

Some parts are entertaining. Overall, a bit rambling and repetitive. The intro said this was the goal, so it was achieved.
