I'm really not sure how I feel about this book but I will give it a 4 star (for now) bcs I can't stop thinking about it in a good way. Most of this is in massive spoiler territory so I'm just gonna hide it.

It's most definitely a really cool idea, and I like how at the end it tells you to start from the end and circle back. It was certainly cool to read the first page again with this whole new context. I'm a bit iffy on some of the things in the middle, like the Caller and the symbolism of some of the things in his parent's house. Like the person who followed her to the bathroom and moved the slippers around? I'm also confused about the worker at Dairy Queen and the one who was warning her about how she's scared for her. There were some things that I appreciate being tied in but like, looking back I'm mostly confused. Overall I'm still giving it a 4 star bcs I was the tension was great, the writing was captivating, and I think the execution of the story was pretty spectacular.

Mini Disclaimer : I am both reading and reviewing this while under the influence of marijuana so maybe take my review with a grain of salt?

Hrmmmmnghhhh.... I'm disappointed.

Once again, I've read a highly recommended book that unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. However, I will pat myself on the back for semi-guessing the twist about 3/4 into the book.
i initially thought jake was the fake one, not lucy

I didn't find the writing style to be quite appealing. I've seen others complain about the choppiness, but I found that to be the only thing appealing about it. Towards the end, it really lost me though. I feel like the twist could've been written better, but maybe it was intended to be that way.

Otherwise, I didn't find the story to be all that interesting, nor all that unsettling. But if you enjoy piecing a challenging mystery together and being utterly confused on where to place each piece, I'd say to give this book a try.

a disorienting character study about loneliness, indecision, and regret. kept me gripped from first to the last page, i could barely put it down. definitely a slump buster for me.

Well, I was definitely scared, as it played on all the different fears, that I have. I had a hard time finishing it on audiobook though, and I found many parts very confusing, especially when you consider the ending.
Tried to predict the twist in the end, and some of it I got, but the twist was a little weird to me. Perhaps one should do, as the author suggests and read it again, to see if it makes sense then.
Definitely a unique read, but perhaps not for me

An unsettling slow burn leading into a strange and kind of bonkers ending, one of my favorite kinds of stories! I didn't really understand the movie at all and I wish I hadn't watched it prior to reading this. The payoff in the book was better but the plot was the same in the movie so it felt a little spoiled.

Incredible writing, thought provoking, had me questioning every line. Physically was so hard to put down, but was so unsettling you have to take some breaks.
