I wasn’t expecting much when I started this book (I was only reading it because the heroine drew my interest in the synopsis), so I was completely caught off guard when the intricacies of the narrative
Present me is shaking her head at past me’s [baseless] assumption that this would be a straightforward and simple read—I.e., FMC saves wounded MMC, they fall in love whilst he recovers, when it comes time for the MMC to return to his life the FMC goes with him, together they face whatever/whoever hurt the MMC, and they live happily ever after—and it is…to a degree.
First Half:
I don’t really give much consideration to a book's narrative past whether or not I liked it, but that wasn’t the case here. When I finally caught on to the intricacies hidden within Aston’s third person narrative I felt hoodwinked…but also begrudgingly impressed.
Second Half:
Her reaction when she learned about Jeb answered the question. I knew she would be heartbroken when she learned the truth, but her instant animosity towards him was shocking. At worst, I expected her to cut him from her life, at best I expected her to forgive him—after all, he raised her, loved her, taught her, cared for her, and protected her, for over a decade. I didn’t think she’d kill him. I figured he would be a weakness when it came to her convictions. Instead we find out that her sense of right and wrong was stronger than any sentiment, a development that I found to be in line with her character arc.
That being said, I don’t share Alena’s black and white outlook when it comes to right and wrong; I wanted Jeb to get his own HEA. Writing this review, the quote, “you are bad guy, but this does not mean you are *bad* guy,” from Wreck-It Ralph came to mind. He was so close to finally leaving the gang, only to die at the hand of the daughter of his heart, knowing that she hated him. I will admit that he became a bit unhinged in the end, his plans to keep Alena dependent on him were 100% toxic.
Lastly, the ending was abrupt. What are Alena and John’s plans for the future? What did Alena do with Jeb’s money? What happened with Annabelle, Johnny, and Olivia?

Blind Faith, by Alexa Aston. Alright readers, this is a must read western love story. Alena and John, who are the main characters of the book were outstanding in this soul searching, romantically involved love story. For me this book reads like a movie, so much so, that you wouldn’t be able to take your eyes away from it. Everything from the details of the story, the landscapes to characters facial expressions was explained in vivid detail.
This made my visualization of the story even better. Trust and believe me when I say that the writer wrote this book with the intention of keeping her readers captivated and entertained. For me there was not a dull moment in the book. Page after page offered information, details and hints to the story plot. The romance between Alena and John was not a slow or a fast burn, but the build was one of a comfortable companionship.
Both characters personalities are written as strong, fearless and build on determination. The drama and suspense add the right amount of intensity to this story that will have you up all night, reading the book to the end. I give this book two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

Thank you to Oliver Heber Books and NetGalley for this free arc!
This was my second book from the Lawman of the West series and my fourth book by Alexa Aston.
This was a really interesting read. A lot different from the first book. John Harper was such a book crush. And I loved seeing him fall for Alena, without even seeing her.
It reminded me of Before I Saw You by Emily Houghton. Just the aspect of falling in love without seeing someone.
Alena was also such a strong character too. She stood up for herself and let John know how she felt and what she would put up with.
They were an amazing couple. And also Anabelle kind of sucked. I did not feel sorry for her at all. You don't get to just change your mind.
If you like historical romances but want something a little different, this is the book for you.
