This book did not rewrite me as a person as Name of the Wind did, but it was truly delightful and beautiful. Lovely. Thrilling.

I was very conflicted bc Rothfuss is overall a very good writer. His sentences paint scenes so well, so many quotes hit where they need to, and I care for the characters and the world built. There’s so many interesting ideas explored-
But man… the way this book was long and we ended back where we started. And I usually don’t mind journey books but much of the time I was like what are we even doing.
I am not going to go into a vent about the characterization of the women, where they do have neat character blueprints but the execution of them lands so flat for me personally… I can never tell where Rothfuss is self aware and where he feeds into a fantasy of adult women throwing themselves at this 15/16 year old with rizz??! And just the way he writes all of them the amount of times I got the ick
I will be reading the next one because the plot hooks I desire seem left for that third book, he is preparing that slow game of payoff and feeding theories of the Chandrian and Denna and history- I enjoy sections that almost brought this up to a three for me again… but the amount of multiple slumps this book put me in and my frustration with its handling of women…

I loved the second entry to the Kingkiller Chronicle series. Kvothe's relationship with Denna had me pulling my hair out at times, and the adventures were exciting and gripping. I really hope Rothfuss finishes this series as I love this story and its such a shame that there's no word on the third book (although, I've no idea how he intends on finishing this story with only one more book... maybe that's the issue).

Didn't finish. Gratuitous sexual interlude in the middle. No reason. Doesn't advance plot.

This series is the best sword and sorcery story I have read in years. Sadly, the third book isn't out yet and there is no release date anywhere.
