Another interesting and twisted case for Dixon to straighten out.

SpoilerOh Lewis... He was carrying around that guilt all this time and his last line gave me sad tingles.

I felt that the scene where they find all those posed mummified bodies was the most chilling and creepy in the series. Gawds. So messed up.

I also don't know if I would have saved the murderer from killing himself... I would hesitate that's for sure.

The tenth entry in an excellent police procedural series. I really like having a series where the protagonist, Nick Dixon, doesn't have dark secrets in his background, isn't a drunk, isn't battling demons etc but is just a normal guy doing his job and doing it thoroughly. He may not say 'how high?" when his superiors say jump, but he does follow the rules. I also like the parts about his homelife and the background that provides, adding to the normality.

I feel like this series just keeps getting better and better.  Nick is asked by his boss to look into a case where a body has been found.  The body is of someone who was killed 16 years earlier.  His boss arrested someone who was convicted; however, he never thought he was guilty.  The leaders in the police want Nick to confirm the serial killer in prison is guilty.  Of course, Nick only does the right thing and wants to make sure the right person is in prison.  This makes him unpopular with some in the police.  This was a twisty story that looks bac to a battle from many years before.  There were some things in this that I bring questions that will need to be dealt with in future books.  I highly recommend this book and series.

I love this series and really enjoy the author’s writing but I have to say I struggled with some of the battle history in here, of which there is a lot and found myself speed reading through it a bit to the detriment of the plot hence the 4 not 5 stars
That said still love the characters and the subplot continues to develop nicely

As a fan of historical mysteries, enjoyed how the author pulled a part of English history into the story. That opening! Certainly captured my attention to see how that beginning and the prologue worked into the plot, and was not disappointed.

Dogged police work by DI Dixon and his team is a hallmark of the series, and "Down Among the Dead" is no exception. A definite page turner, one for fans of crime fiction.
