Well written fiction book. Even as a work of fiction, it takes the things that I have “understood” or thought I understood and turns them around for another look. Good read!

I honestly couldn't get bast the large black woman coming into the picture. The book was cheesy and unrealistic. The "papa" references irked me to no end. I couldn't even finish it. NO man who had their daughter kidnapped and murdered would assume that a letter telling them to go to the place her body was found would be from God. NO ONE. It was ridiculous.

I had heard before starting this book, that people either love it or hate it. I honestly think I'm in the middle on this one, although I'm still processing. I wasn't offended like some are at the radical/some say heretical concept of the trinity and the character of God (it is, after all, fiction), but I also wasn't blown away to find a whole new understanding of God/religion, although there were some interesting ideas and challenges. I'm pretty solidly in the middle, which is why I give it 3 stars.

I will say that I would absolutely love to spend a weekend with the 3-personhood of God! I think it would be a lot easier to remain in close relationship with someone you have met face-to-face. So, I'll be watching my mailbox...

And I'd be interested to discuss this one with anyone who's read it. I think this would have been a great book to read in a book club or small group at church.

I was really disappointed with The Shack. It had been recommended to me by several people and there's lots of hype about it, but I don't understand why. First of all, it's not written very well, in my opinion, and the writing (especially the dialogue) doesn't ring true. And although there are a few good points and interesting ideas, most of the spiritual lessons aren't anything I haven't heard before. Although the metaphor is unique, the core message seems too simple.

Powerful story. I love learning new things about God.

Interesting book which focuses on one’s relationship with God. The emphasis is on loving and trusting God but not through the auspices of church. It emphasizes that we have fallen into the trap of believing in personal independence, which leads to our need for hierarchies of power. Very interesting…and it made me cry.

I'm still not quite sure what to make of this book. It had some profound things to say about forgiveness, God, His will and our relationship with Him. The author's concept of diety was much different than what I have from my background and I think I really got stuck on that. A friend recommended this book as one of the best she had ever read. I don't think I could say the same thing, but everyone comes to this book with his or her own spiritual experiences and that depends on what one takes away after having read the book. In the end, I would say that any book that turns our thoughts to God, love, eternity and the bigger questions of life is probably good.
