Honestly, I thought the s** would start a lot earlier. A little disappointing tbh - thought there would be WAY more. Not that much :/ Can find way spicier on ao3.

Also, I found out the author may be a t**mp supporter? Darn.

***just found out the author is a racist trumpie and I can’t support that.
OG RATING: 4.2

This is honestly such a good mafia book, the tension between Nicolas and Elena was on point.
The way the author just got me hooked trying to find out what was going on to how the MCs were going to get together was perfect.

There was obviously some parts that got me like ?????? Or just a bit annoyed at Elena djsjsjsj but then again if I thought too much into it I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did.

THE WAY NICO BURNED THE GAS STATION AND KILLED THE MUSTY DUSTY MAN ?!!?!?!? AS HE LAWYER HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO😌

Omg book tok was right this was so good! It was steamy and funny and I basically loved everything about it. I loved the family dynamics, mostly the sister, brother, cousins, and mom and grandma(not the dad). I also really liked Elena as a character. The only thing I wish was more Nico POV’s other then that it was amazing.

I loved the ambiance, 50s music, and decor in the beginning. The ending was satisfying too, however, before the end there was one chunk of story which I felt was irrelevant and it slowed my interest (the car show bit) but other than that, and ofc accepting the fact that this is a mafia romance so feminism has kinda been left at the door, this was an enjoyable first time mafia romance.

This is a mafia/gang romance. It's the first one I've read of its type so I have no idea if it's good for that particular genre. As far as sexual/romantic tension and angst though... hot damn!

I'm not sure how I feel about romanticizing the mafia. This isn't fantasy and I say that because I forgive a lot more in fantasy than I do in my contemporary fiction. Having said that, I don't think this particular book romanticized it. This was about a romantic relationship that is within the setting of the mafia. It's not really romanticizing the mafia itself. It's violent and brutal, but both characters are a part of this world and understand the rules.

It does have a couple tropes that were predictable, but when you read a lot of romance books it's hard to not predict how things will go and it doesn't affect my enjoyment. But here they are in case they bother you or maybe you like them:
strong lust at first sight, forced marriage, miscommunication, "anyone touches you, they die"
.

I don't know if I would recommend this if graphic violence bothers you, but it is worth the read for the all that tension. Cause damn.
