Two very short, very sweet stories.

Almost midnight is told through a series of new years and near-miss kisses for best friends. It will put a smile on your face. But my favourite by far was Kindred spirits. It will be the same for any fan of Fangirl, or any actual fangirl. It was so much fun to read about a fangirl camping out to see the new Star Wars movie. The difference between what she expected and what she got has been so true for me in so many events that I just found the story incredibly relatable, not to mention ultimately heartwarming and so very funny.

I read this on New Years Eve and it was so adorable. I have a soft spot in my heart for both stories but especially Midnights. I started dating my husband due to a NYE party. ☺️ ❤️❤️❤️

The cutest thing ever! I am so sad right now because I have read every single book written by Rainbow Rowell and there is nothing left 😟She writes very cute and naturally paced love stories and I love them so much! 😊

2 short stories. The first is a look at a yearly NYE party and the friends that gather throughout highschool and the first year of college. Cute and feel good. The second is a story about a girl waiting in line for a few days and nights in celebration of the newest star wars movie being released. A short fun story for the nerd in all of us.

I forgot how much I love these stories and these characters. Also, the illustrations just skyrocketed my love for these stories. Rainbow Rowell has reminded me of how amazing she is at writing and Simini Blocker is an excellent illustrator.

Midnights: 5 stars
"Noel was her very best friend- even if she wasn't his. Noel was her person. He was the first person she talked to in the morning, and the last person she texted at night."
I originally read this in My True Love Gave to Me, and the second time around I found it just as adorable, endearing, funny, and nostalgic. In fact, the illustrations were the cutest things ever. I love Mags and Noel and probably will forever because they're just the absolute sweetest and GAH they're so cute together. Midnights is about growing up, finding your place in the world, and growing apart. It's also about friendship, tree nuts who are out to get a certain character, and (of course) love. I so deeply appreciated the whole sort of nostalgic vibe when Noel and Mags go to the party together after being separated and he says "she's different" and they talk about staying friends. I also deeply appreciated their friendship prior to college and how close they were. Also, I'd like to put it out there that I love Noel so much he's just this little tiny bean who wants to dance and doesn't want to be hurt by tree nuts. This short story had just as much humor, pop culture references, and romance as you'd expect from Rainbow Rowell. In fact, it reminded me all over again of why I fell in love with her writing in the first place. Her writing is so fresh and funny and genuine and it just grabs me by the heart.

Kindred Spirits: 5 stars
"And the thing about nerd culture being mainstream culture now means that there's no place to just be a nerd among other nerds - without being reminded that you're the nerd."
I am going to say something that will likely offend every single one of you, so prepare you unfollow/block buttons now. I have never seen Star Wars. Not a single movie. Before it was because I had no interest/I was annoyed with old men and teenage boys who talked about it, but now it's just because I haven't gotten around to it (yet; I'm planning to marathon all of them and go see the new one soon). However, as a fangirl, I can relate to Elena (mainly Gabe, but also Elena). This book reminded me of Fangirl just because of the concept of a girl obsessed with a series and because Cath and Wren stood outside waiting for new Simon Snow books and I imagine at least once they had an experience like this. This short story is just so funny. The dialogue is fresh, the scenes are comical and constantly made me laugh-out-loud, and it's a great celebration of fandom and what it means to different people. It explores what it means to be a nerd and how some people are nerds in different ways. I loved it. Also, Gabe is a constant mood. He doesn't like talking to people, he'd rather read than socialize, he's sassy, and more. I just relate so heavily to him and I was so drawn to him throughout the story. I really hope we get a little follow-up short story to this because I really wanna know what happens to Elena and Gabe.

In conclusion, I loved this, I thought it was amazing and now I'm going to go check out Simini Blocker's other works.
