Another great audio book in the series, some of the Austen jokes didn't hit home as they would for others for me as ive not read the classic, however you still get the jist and it's still funny, and still easy to follow and be enjoyable, im looking forward to easily getting through this series before rare London so i can gush with the author :)

I felt there were a few problematic things though this entry including some racism, homophobic micro aggressions from queer characters, and some weird stuff with Lydia and the discussion of modern feminism and discussions that an obviously minor character was included in. Was more cringe-cringe than fun-cringe like other entries and definitely not the strongest themeing and content wise.

Well, if this wasn't a fun ride! In this installment of the Nevermore Bookshop series, Mina and the boys are invited to an Austenian event in lovely Cynthia's estate. Which is a convenient enough thing, since Lydia Bennet in the flesh has been brought to life by Nevermore and she's hungry for young rich men and lavish dance balls.
This book was really atmospheric, and although I didn't have a hard time guessing who the murderer was, it was fun to follow the clues dropped by Holmes and reach a satisfying conclusion. Besides, I loved the development we started getting on Morrie, my favourite tortured poet, and it was so exciting to meet this new character Victoria! Even if it was while the gang was, um, busy in bed.
Excellent installment, as always! I'm addicted to this series!

This review covers the first three books in the series.
When I write reviews for books in a series, sometimes I write a review for each individual book, and sometimes I write a single review that encompasses all the books (more accurately, a review of the series). For this series, however (or at least these first three books in the series), I think I could write reviews, and they would be the same for each book. A single review could be posted interchangeably for each one. I feel like there is that little difference between these three books. The murder victims changed, but that’s about it.
I did think that the author handled Mina’s impending blindness well. I felt her fear, frustration, and uncertainty. She had personal growth around the issue. And so far, there hasn’t been any magical cure, and I don’t see one on the horizon. So, that’s a plus. I also simply liked Mina herself. And I thought the writing was quite readable.
However, I never really came to love the men. I liked them, OK, but that’s about it. What’s more. While the murder mysteries were fine, I chose the series for the fantasy elements and the romance. Other than the fantastical existence of the men and the bookshop themselves (and Morries ability to hack with his phone), the fantasy elements were fairly light. And the romance was definitely a slow-moving subplot. Both of these are fine, but not what I was looking for. So, the result was that I was often bored.
All in all, I think this is a fine series that just wasn’t a great match for me.

In this the third book in the Nevermore Bookshop series we get more information on the mystery that is the bookshop, but Mina's too stuck emotionally to examine it. Instead she focuses on an inane Jane Austen get together where theft, murder and mayhem take place. (Seriously, the crime rate for this tiny English village must have exploded since Mina arrived.) all sexy shenanigans are put in hold as Miss Lydia Bennett emerges into the shop and forced everyone's attention into herself. I admit I liked this book slightly less than the previous two. I will still continue the series, but not until I've read a palette cleanser or two.
More like 2.5 stars, but in this case I'm rounding DOWN to remind myself to never read one of these again. I really liked the first book in the series last year, so when there was a sale I bought the next two ... read book 2 In January and finally got around to the third in May. I was reminded WHY I was reluctant - and what I enjoyed about the series.
What I liked:
- Fun characters and interactions with some cute banter. The basic setup of the main characters provides some built-in fun. I love murder mysteries and bookshop-based stories.
Problems:
- The new addition was there for obvious reasons but added nothing of value.
- For the first time Mina's vision felt like an afterthought that had a couple of scenes but was otherwise bolted on inconsistently.
- I have no issue with the spice or RH (wouldn't be reading the series if I did), but again they get bolted on almost like the outline had forgotten the sex scenes so they just had to be bolted on.
- There were TWO mysteries, one was totally UNsatisfying and the other was blindingly obvious.
Overall the book was fine but disappointing - we know the author can do better, but the end result here is not just disappointing but off-putting for the remainder of the series.
