Somebody shook my shoulders. Gon was hugging me in his arms. “Don’t die. I beg you. I’ll do anything for you . . . anything . . .” Gon whimpered. He was covered in blood.
this chapter shattered me. though the ending was a bit clunky, this was such a beautiful read, it made me smile many times.
here is another part i highlighted that i found profound:
There was this day when Mom asked a question to Granny, who was carefully writing hanja for love.
“Mom, do you even know what that character means?” “Of course!” Granny glared at Mom, then in a deep low voice, she said, “Love.” “What does love mean?” Mom asked mischievously. “To discover beauty.” After Granny wrote the top part of the character , then the middle part,  (meaning “heart”), she said, “These three dots are us. This one’s mine, this one’s yours, this one’s his!”

Finished Almond by Won-pyung Sohn and this was a GREAT book. Definitely recommended. Yunjae, is very honest - with everything. I guess that is what comes with lacking emotions and empathy. However, he still shows care for others and wants to understand people so deeply. Even Gon who is horrible to him and everyone, due to his curiosity of understanding humans he is the only one who shows sympathy for Gon. Despite not being able to feel - he recognises that Gon has had a difficult life making him want to appear cold hearted but he isn’t. He is a broken boy. And Yunjae is the only person willing to be patient and present for Gon, even when it puts his life on the line.

Really had me at first, thought it would become one of my favourites, but
the author had to magically cure the boy by giving him a crush and a friend.
2 stars for the childhood part of it, though.

Also, the girl was so unnecessary, Gon was right there already, they had chemistry, Gon had some personality behind his name unlike the girl 🤷🏻‍♀️
