I was instantly hooked up in the story told by Sohn Won-pyung. The first chapters were extremely impactful. The description of the Alexithymia was incredibly well done and Yunjae's point of view was so realistic, interesting and different.
Sohn Won-pyung was totally up to her intend with this book: what does being normal really mean, what is love, and can you really give unconditional love to your children no matter what they are like and even though they are far what you’ve been expecting ?
My only deception was the abundance of drama in the second half of the book that drove us a bit away of the reality.

As a Korean learner, I can say it, translating Korean is really challenging. Thus I was pleasantly surprised by Lee Joo-sun's translation which was really well done and very pleasant to read.

I would definitely recommend this book. It was unconventional and impactful.

"...neither you nor I nor anyone can ever really know whether a story is happy or tragic."

love has the power to make us both monster and human :,) / 3.5 stars

"Books took me to places I could never go otherwise. They shared the confessions of people I’d never met and lives I’d never witnessed. The emotions I could never feel, and the events I hadn’t experienced could all be found in those volumes."

"Life takes on various flavors as it flows. I’ve decided to confront it. Confront whatever life throws at me, as I always have. And however much I can feel, nothing more, nothing less."

Although a lot of aspects of this book were really cliché/predictable and slightly disjointed at points, I really enjoyed this coming of age book and it was weirdly such a sweet, funny and wholesome read despite some dark and tragic moments. I loved Yunjae’s feisty Granny, as well as his unlikely friendship with Gon. I think the author Sohn Won-pyung did a wonderful job of showing how people are too complex to be put in boxes and thought of as one way; how there is more to people that meets the eye.
I didn’t really get the part with the gangster guy Steelwire though, who stabbed who?
