Like the general idea. Very interesting thoughts.
Written in an inconcise way

I really enjoyed this book even though it undermines the foundation that all my education is based on (the bell curve). The main idea of the book is summed up in this quote "The problem with experts is that they do not know what they do not know". Many times we rely on experts to predict what will most likely happen but in reality we are most affected by the crazy unlikely situations that off-rail our lives; not the ones that could have been predicted.

Taleb has an fantastic sense of humor. When I read this book I felt like I was spending time with an enjoyable new friend for the duration of my read. I would enjoy hearing more of what he has to say not only about science but also about life.

Great read for everyone!
This is the only math book I've read that I think non-math people would enjoy. He starts out each chapter by telling you if its super technical and you should skip it or not. He really doesn't get too deep into math even in the most technical chapters. If you have had an intro stat course you could follow along just fine.

Do not waste your time with this book!

This is probably my first three star review of a book that I plan to read again. Much of the time, the writing style was humorous, and there were a few stand out sentences that pushed my brain in a direction it has never gone before.

However, the author’s attempts to be funny turn into multiple anti-fat comments, and outdated ideas about autistic people. Also, I will keep this book in mind—when I publish my own—about how to avoid sounding like an egotistical asshole.

I plan to read his other books first, and then loop back to this one if I’m still thinking about it. There are some genuinely interesting ideas, and I do find it worth reading books that open my mind even if they have some downsides.

elsayles's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

Narrator was awful - main topic was how unknowable everything is.  Narrator emphasizes like a 6th grade know it all.  Bad combination.  Really really awful.

Nassim Taleb is a fine fellow.
