I really wanted to love this novel, and I started off very engaged. However, as the narrative split into present and past, the close parallels of both stories in terms of location and general events made everything blue together and caused me to lose interest. I should have DNF'd around the halfway point, but I kept pressing forward waiting for payoff, of which there was very little.
