Finally finished this book. It took so long for it to get interesting for me. Granted, I got distracted when other books came up that were on my queue. In the end, it was an interesting read. I thought the older brother's story was a bit flimsy though. Makes for an interesting which came first dilemma, the chicken or the egg. Or rather, the Oracle scene from the movie The Matrix about breaking the vase.

This novel ask an interesting question, how would you live your life if it was foretold to you the day of your death? Four siblings are foretold their death date and we see how they live their life and if the predictions are accurate or not. I enjoyed this novel a great deal, it analyzed character that are some what likeable and man do they have flaws. This novel wraps up really well asking the reader to question what is a well lived life?

What I liked in this book: The character relationships and connections how they're connected. How the family history is traced through moments, reminded me of the novel Life After Life. The character make tough decisions, a lot of the time wrong, but there choices are still very real and you still end up liking them.

What I didn't like: the last story was kind of a let down it focus on one moment where the other characters had other moments that lead up to their choices. The dropping of Eddie the cop's character is tragic since his story interacted with everyone but Varya, and how he affects two of the siblings, I wanted closure for this character, but there was none.

I would recommend this book for people that like book about the past, the San Fransisco of the 70's was really clear and vivid. Also if you enjoy books about family history life the excellent Life after Life. I was very close to giving this book five stars but with the things that I didn't like are just to strong. I would rate this 4.3 stars, it is a my favorite book of 2018 so far.

This book was fascinating. It gives us an insight how we can bear our life when you brought a premonition within yourself, It is like a virus, you have to search on your way being selfish to prolong your death date. The author, Chloe, has an interesting way to illustrate all of the four characters one by one, started from the youngest to the oldest. The design is looking from their age and gender, also the way of their mind interprets to their action. Chloe is also smart to separate the religion and philosophy, she tried to combines them that resulted “death is not death after all”, “Everything that lives must die”. We can imagine when Varya researched a medicine to make the monkey can live double from their age. Chloe made an impacted and conflicted in a debate when Varya and her mom said “We are kids, something fears hang on the thought, why you believed it too?”

Anyway, this a new way book and it’s wonderful of Jews Tradition. It’s not like any chapter book. So you have to try this new story design!
