I’d say 3.5 stars. I loved the premise and really really loved Simon’s story so incredibly much!
I loved Klara’s story, but it left me with some questions like why suicide? Why in that penthouse? Were the original knocks she heard in her apartment and the rv from Simon and Saul or also random yet timely? Maybe it was all mental illness heightened by alcoholism but still left me a little unsatisfied but I was expecting the answers through the other two stories.
Daniel’s story was good, but also left me with even more questions? They touched on why he kept distance with his siblings with the beach vacation memory but why to Mira? Also, realistically, why would Eddie (now with the fbi) be allowed to investigate since he actually had a history with Klara? ALSO! Why would the fbi allow an investigation into what, at first glance, is suicide or accidental death??
So with varya, I got somewhat annoyed because I felt the long lost son Luke came out of no where, but ok, I can go along with it still. I also was annoyed that, while we saw why she her ocd got worse after the death info we didn’t get into why or how it originated. The author also didn’t really delve into the eating disorder she had or why no one else seemed to quite catch on to it? I also expected and anticipated Eddie to show up at some point in her story. He was an integral character in the other 3 siblings stories but not Varya’s? He was a blurb saying he was found not guilty in the cause of Daniel’s death, which yeah he wouldn’t have been! Mira called him and told him about where he went and he showed up and Daniel was going to shoot a hostage so yeah, he shot him in the leg! The fact that he shot him in a bad part of the leg is not something he would’ve known?
I was curious to hear more about Eddie and why the hell the fbi allowed his original investigation in Klara’s suicide and why 15 years later he’s still hung up on her and why the fbi is allowing him to look for a Gypsy psychic??
I also was happy to have Ruby show up in daniel’s story and to hear about her and her college outcome in varya’s story. I would’ve liked to hear how her outcome was post Gertie’s eventual death though.
I was happy the author told us about Robert’s life post Simon’s death!
All in all, I still recommend this book and still enjoyed it. I just felt the first half was so great and fell a bit flat in the second half.

An easy one to recommend to lots of people. It’s fast paced and a breezy read for a book about the fear of dying and how it makes us act or not act. I wanted a little more- especially of the siblings when they’re young, but there’s enough here that I think a lot of people would like it.

As someone from a larger family, I loved reading this. Definitely thought provoking and a page turner.
The premise was appealing, then it felt like it was simply a slice of life story with no deeper meaning
