Poorly paced, shallow character development, unbelievable (and truly uncomfortable) relationships. I loved it.

As a fan of the movies, I had to pick up the book while vacationing in Forks. The book was just as campy and it was fun to see more of the characters. It is a story you have to climb cringe mountain to enjoy, but the pay off is worth it.

I feel very Elsa-like...."You can't marry a man you just met".

The pedophilia is what I couldn’t quite get over as an adult… as well as the fact that most of the book occurs over the weekend but she’s willing to die for him? Idk I mean it got me out of my book slump like the old reliable read it is but also 🤔

Maybe just because I went in with low expectations, but that was actually pretty good. The writing was hamfisted, particularly in descriptive language - it's practically criminal to set a book in a place as atmospheric and magical as the Olympic Peninsula, and have the prose so flat and bland. And of course it was too teenager-y, and Bella had as much personality as, well, a doormat. Even given those complaints, it hung together as a story well. I don't understand why it got so wildly popular (or was that only with the later ones?), but it was a fun read.

Not at all my usual genre, but I LOVED it! The story sucked me in right away (lately, it's been taking me a long time to get into books -- I'm not sure whether that's due to the books themselves, or just a phase I've been going through) and I couldn't put it down.
