Peterson's mind is so intriguing and messy. His ideas I rate highly; his presentation... terrible. Filling nearly every sentence with emphatic urgency grinds away any way to distinguish key bits, making it all feel incoherent and devoid of any core. But this continual ominous tone seizes my instincts and tells me Peterson has something important to say, I just wish someone else edited or even wrote it.
Thought provoking and uncomfortable criticism in our society - worth a read!
Woof. Someone has never heard the words ‘succinct’ or ‘pithy.’ The contents of this book do not justify the length of this book. Granted, I’m a card carrying member of the social media-blogging-micro attention generation so maybe I wasn’t the audience intended. The book had great bones but for me the message was lost in the pontification.
I'd put it in the 3.5ish range if I had a more precise rating scale. Some good insights and suggestions about living well that I resonated with, but I found it very verbose at times.
Got bored listening to it going on and on about rubbish. I listened to 5 hours and think I only listened to a few rules. It could probably be written in a much shorter book!

Not a perfect book, but it inspired me to improve my life at a time when I really needed it. I'm an atheist but didn't find his numerous references to religious texts and stories to be evangelistic. I think if I had tried to read this on the page, I would have given up. I found the audiobook to be a good format as I think he is skilled at speaking. My favorite chapter was the one on parenting, as I am really struggling with my kids. It helped me understand WHY I need to be stronger willed than they are, if not how.
I get the criticism, but this has been great for me, especially in combination with reading the Stoics.

Makes ya think but doesn't feel very organized or helpful for socking problems. Does open the door for discussion. More Bible fables, then I realized it would have an interesting perspective on how they came to be.
This book is definitely filled with great advice, but I listened to this book on Audible and Jordan Peterson narrated it himself, so it felt like he was scolding or yelling at the writer, which didn't make it easy to comprehend. I would like to actually read this book and then maybe I can have a better review. However, the main takeaways I got are:
1. 1. STAND UP STRAIGHT WITH YOUR SHOULDERS BACK
“Standing up straight with your shoulders back is something that is not only physical, because you’re not only a body, you’re a spirit so to speak, a psyche as well. Standing up physically also implies and invokes and demands standing up metaphysically. Standing up means voluntarily accepting the burden of being.”
2. TREAT YOURSELF LIKE SOMEONE YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING.
"Strengthen the individual. Start with yourself. Take care with yourself. Define who you are. Refine your personality. Choose your destination and articulate your being.”
3. MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT THE BEST FOR YOU.
“People create their worlds with the tools they have directly at hand. Faulty tools produce faulty results. Repeated use of the same faulty tools produces the same faulty results.”
