A bit scattered. I don't agree with some of the things he says. But insightful for the most part.

I have too much to say. Favourite book of all time. Read almost the whole book on the flight back from Scotland to Singapore.

Oh my God is this book bad. The message and 12 rules could be summed in easily half the pages but some of the actual messages is lost in his borderline incoherent ramblings. If the first draft of a book is everything you type and draft 2 you cut everything away that's not the message, this book never got edited and finished properly.

DID NOT FINISH

★☆☆☆☆ - Jan 2nd 2025 (DID NOT FINISH (25%)
Figured if im setting myself a challenge to read a lot this year, I might as well enjoy it and make some reviews

I vaguely knew that Jordan Peterson was controversial but went into this with an open mind.

I actually liked the book initially. Its not a textbook its his opinion on life so its incredibly subjective and should not be taken as some irrefutable guidance.

I think the core "rules" aren't that controversial generally speaking and some are really nice.
But once he outlines the rules he rambles on. - I like a bit of ramble I enjoyed some of the biblical and evolutionary references but it was too much.

I saw some review that said its like he was getting paid per word and that's exactly what it felt like. I would read and read but go nowhere.

Some of his analogies v questionable but not shocking considering he seems to be stirring up quite a lot of controversy.

Long story short:
Rules are fine
The analogies are fun but go on too long
Highly Questionable Opinions but what do you expect

Its disappointing to have to give this 1 star because I actually enjoyed the first chapter a lot but it was a hard slog after that..

Interesting first couple of chapters about hierarchies and evolutionary perspectives. Get a little too preachy towards the end for my taste. Regardless, is a solid one time read. I feel that I will not keep coming back to this book, hence the average rating.
slow-paced

Starts off slow, then dissolved into a lot of religion, a thought provoking section around three quarters in before wrapping up with a very binary, patriarchal POV.
