This book, in a word, is fast. From the introduction to the actual action, things move at a steady pace - though it doesn't feel rushed, if that makes sense. There is little build up and details are dropped with the aplomb of ashes, but it still managed to form a cohesive, and appealing, story that drew me in.

From previous Helen Scott endeavors, I recognized the wit and humor that speckled Cress's inner monologues, while the heat and searing emotion could come from none other than Lucinda Dark. I could be completely wrong about that, but somehow while I was reading, my brain decided to separated who wrote what, even though it all worked so well together. I've read author duos in the pas that didn't quite jive like they should have.

I truly enjoyed the beginning of this series, though there were a few times when it felt like scenes were dropped - as though a paragraph or two was edited out and resulted in a decided lack of flow. (Her hallway conversation with Ariana comes to mind). Despite that, it was a delightful tale full of unique magic, court politics, and plenty of lust.

My Final Verdict on Court of Crimson

Fast paced and unique, this is a Fae Fantasy with a Reverse Harem flair. Often witty and emotionally intense, it's a great addition to these author portfolios

I love books about faeries as long as they bring the court intrigue and debauchery!

In the Twisted Fae series, Humans and Fae are aware of each other; mostly because they are at war. Per usual, Humans fear the Fae as mostly unknowns and Fae hate the humans because they are better than everyone. Cress has grown up in a convent where she has never felt like she belonged; she is just waiting for her birthday when she just knows her life will be altered.

Cress has no idea how altered her life is about to become! She also has NO idea what to do when she ends up in a castle full Fae. Most especially when three Fae Princes think she might be more than human. Is Cress a Fae and never knew it?

Cress is often taken by surprise with the way the Princes act as well as the things the Fae find acceptable. While Cress knows she should fear more for her life than it appears she does, and in some ways she does fear more than she shows, she also can not deny the connection she feels but can not explain.

Cress being Cress, loves to push their buttons, even if it is a EPICLY unwise decision. She is also my kind of grossly inappropriate and I look forward to more adventures with Cress!

The heroine is just...sooooo dumb, ughhhh. She does a lot of crap without rhyme or reason, and is about the most cliched fantasy-romance heroine that comes to mind.

The writing style also has a lot of issues. For example, there are a lot of inconsistencies, weird editing that left out sentences in the middle of characters talking. And one of my biggest pet peeves, where the heroine talks in a way that is weirdly modern, and also about things that she should have no knowledge about. For example, she herself said no one ever told her about sex, she grew up in a convent, and didn't even have any friends who might have told her since everyone except Nellie avoided her. Then she contradicts herself like two sentences later, saying she knows some things about it.

I know that the "she talks in a modern way" is a nitpicky pet peeve of mine, and I am not expecting that she will talk in Ye Olde English or sth, but there needs to be *some* level of nod to the fantastical times they were set in. All the authors who do this, just seem to me that they want to use the fancy gowns and subservient-female societies, but don't want to put in any other effort to keep it at least a little bit more realistic (considering a girl who grew up and never left a convent for 21 years, who knows about fucking, and talks like a girl from the 21st century, is just TOO WEIRD for me).
