It's hard to rate a book like this. It was horrific and so relevant and I had a hard time reading it and a hard time putting it down. It made me sick to my stomach and so, so angry. This book needs to be read because this is the world we are living in.

I still have mixed feelings about this book. Sometimes the narrative was hard to follow and I had to go back and re-read something I felt like I missed. Powerful message and an interesting idea, but fell kind of hard. I barely remember how the book ended, though I know I finished it.

Courtney Summers does it again. This book managed to be dark, creepy, mysterious and emotional all at the same time and I loved every second of it. I especially like how she reveals everything slowly, never saying too much or little at a time and the suspense isn't forced or annoying, it feels natural. And I love how there's minimal romance in a lot of her books and it doesn't overshine the plot because there's so much more going on. That being said, at the end of her books the romance isn't really established well, and you don't know where the characters left off or what's going to happen. The same with the endings. They seem abrupt, not in a sense where it's completely open ended but in a way that's irritating because it leaves you wanting more or maybe something of a more official ending but there's no sequel. But I can't help but like it at the same time.

I know I gave it a bad rating. Rape needs to be talked about because it's happening. Its ugly, it's painful and tragic.
This book is so in your face about the gritty truth of what happens. I gave it a bad rating cause it hurt to read. It made me angry. I'm angry that the book stopped where it did. I wanted more.

I think this is what 13 Reasons was trying to be but failed. It's a tough read, especially as a new mom of a little girl, and touches on a lot of very real fears. It's rape culture laid out and well spoken about at that. Beautifully written and powerful.
