This was mildly fun, a little bit of an adventure with beloved characters when they’re young. Appropriately, it felt like one of the smaller plot points from one of main books, the ones where you’re entertained but wondering how on earth it will link up to the main story and wishing that Diana could just tighten things up a bit and get on with it. But here it’s nice short novella. I was more curious and expected not to care too much about it, but I did like it. Especially at the end, (no spoilers) you're left with a sense of all that Jamie is grieving about home and family. It’s quite nice to have that insight into him a little younger when he’s just maturing.
I listened to the audiobook and one unfortunate thing was that the narrator’s voice for Jamie made him sound a little like Ringo. Ah well.

Virgins is a novella by Diana Gabaldon that can be read as a prequel to the Outlander book one in the series. This book gives the reader a little insight on the brotherly relationship between neighbors Ian and Jamie. This book is a small adventure the two share as they attempt to make money outside of their Scotland homes, while they protect each other at all costs and share in the trauma's of their life experiences and losses.
I did not know about this Novella prior to reading Outlander. It was not needed to understand anything and if anything I probably followed along with the two characters better having already had insight into their histories. I enjoyed the opportunity to see some of how these two have become like brothers and the novella did have some naive boyish humor involved. The storyline of the novella fell flat and confusing towards the end as one felt he author was quick to wrap things up. Overall, I did enjoy adding this story to the character dynamics of Jamie and Ian.

Title is spot on ;) was surprised that for the amount of chatter about sex, surprisingly little sex in the book overall. Rather rapey though.
