Took me a while but I most definitely got into this well developed storyline and characters. Minerva and Chase were a great match.

chase is such a cinnamon roll, how much he cares for minerva and always wants the best for her is the sweetest thing. and at the same time he respects her and is willing to support her in any way he can.
minerva was a likable heroine.
their relationship was very sweet, chase was truly a gentleman and wanted to help minerva overcome the trauma from her marriage. he always let her decide what she really wanted and needed and was willing to listen to her and her feelings.
the pacing was veeeery slow and a little weird. was bored a lot whilst reading. a lot of scenes of chase dealing with his family. also the ending was a bit rushed and simplistic.
the overall problem of this book was that it needed to be more complex, both the character and the plot.
I was given an e-arc by Netgalley in exchange of my honest opinion.
I liked Minerva's character and the way her past abuse was handled, but I couldn't connect much with her and even less with Chase. I was supposed to be interested in the mistery but to be quite honest, I was bored. I wish I could say this story grabbed my attention and didn't let go, but that wasn't the case. But that's just how I feel about it, because it's a well written book and just because I didn't connect with it doesn't mean that others won't.

Trigger warning for discussion of domestic violence in the novel.
It took me a while to get into this novel, but the second half was much more engaging. It’s a neat premise, a Duke leaving his money and companies to women who need it rather than his greedy family. I liked the hero and heroine, but I really enjoyed it once they started working together rather than sparring.
The heroine is struggling to be with a man after her abusive husband, and I think the book dealt with her pain and trauma well, though it needs a trigger warning.
This book is a good set up to a series and features multiple investigators. So, if you’re looking to read about trying to solve a mystery it might be a good fit.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley in return for a fair review.

Chase has some family drama. With the reading of his uncle's will, everyone in the family has lost their mind and the greed is astounding. He runs an investigative business and takes it upon himself to truly look into what happened to his uncle and if it was an accident.
Minerva is a widow from a not so happy marriage. She doesn't understand how, but she is given a grand inheritance from Chase's uncle. Running her own investigative business keeps her busy, but the two band together to try to solve this mystery.
I think you should try this book if you like plenty of mystery, sleuthing, and crime solving in your novels.
I really did not like this book unfortunately. I was just so utterly....bored. I hate to say it. I had to force myself to read this and I am not usually like that, even if I don't love a novel. I literally fell asleep twice while reading this book on separate occasions. I just could not get into it. The characters felt so flat to me. I didn't care about them. There was so much time spent on the family and the inheritance and the sleuthing. I felt like when I got to 40% of the book they had barely had 3 conversations together. The first kiss was awful to me with her thinking about her dead husband the whole time. I just couldn't like it. I think maybe someone more into the investigative side of the novel will enjoy this a lot more than I did.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC. My opinions and thoughts are my own.

Chase Radnor is an investigator and the perfect choice for his cousin to reach out to for help. His cousin has inherited a dukedom but the vast wealth that their uncle collected was not left to anyone in the family. Rather, it was parceled out to three women that no one knows. Finally, Chase has found the first one, though breaking into her house might not have been the best idea.
Minerva Hepplewhite had an abusive husband who died mysteriously. She took her friend, Betsy, and Betsy's son Jeremy, moved them all to London and changed her name. She thought she was safe. And yet, there's a man who has now broken into her house. But he's not there to rob her. Instead, he wants to help her claim a huge inheritance. He is shocked to find out that she is working toward becoming an investigator herself, especially since he suspects that she may have been involved in her husband's death (and maybe even his uncle's.)
A good start to the series. This book included a lot of set up so there could have been more about their relationship and I never really connected with either Chase or Minerva. I am looking forward to Kevin's story but even more so to Nicholas, the duke's.

The writing is as usual good, and the plot held promise. However I felt it rushed through certain parts and couldn't sustain the readers' interest and therefore fell short on delivering up on a great read.
An Enticing Introduction to A Promising New Trilogy
This story really is quite the feat. It is a charming historical romantic suspense novel, which I so rarely can find. This is the first entry into a trilogy with a very interesting premise: a duke leaves his fortune to 3 seemingly random women and in this book, his nephew (our romantic hero) Chase is tasked with not only finding the women so they can get their inheritance, but also to find out the truth behind how his uncle died. He finds the first woman (our romantic heroine) Minerva and from there a really fun dance begins.
Minerva is fantastic. Rather than getting her totally random windfall and using it to do pretty much nothing but be a lady of leisure, she decides to open a detective business that ends up rivaling Chase's own. I loved the way they were both trying to solve the same case (why the Duke left Minerva the money and if he was killed) and sneak around each other while also working together.
I loved Chase and Minerva's chemistry. It was at times playful, always sexy, and seemed deep from the get-go. One thing I really loved about this book is the way it slowly revealed their backstories. I hate it when books throw the backstory at you right away. This was a nice slow build of revelations between the two, which really helped build their relationship.
The other characters in the book were all very well developed as well and I greatly enjoyed getting to know them as well. You could feel the bonds between them all, which was very refreshing.
I am very much looking forward to the rest of this trilogy. There is still so much to unravel and I hope that Minerva and Chase continue to do so, and I am so excited to meet the other two women the Duke chose to inherit his wealth.

Another great Madeline Hunter book! I loved the cozy whodunnit of the book (even though it's not fully resolved by the book's end), and I really liked the premise of the book. This book isn't always exciting, but it's very intentionally paced and the characters are wonderfully adult and straightforward with each other.
This book was fantastic! Heiress for Hire is part romance and part mystery. Chase's uncle, a duke, comes to an untimely death and the will surprisingly leaves most of the inheritance to three strangers. Minerva is one of those strangers. In his investigation into who Minerva is and what her relationship with his uncle had been, Chase learns that not only does she have secrets in her past but she also decides to investigate the duke's death as she had never met or heard from him in the past. Both believe that the duke may have been potentially murdered. Many suspects include much of Chase's family with lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.
This book is fun. The characters are smart and well-written. Minerva is a strong and independent woman...so different from so many others from that time, whether by choice or not. Chase is just so likable. The mystery of "whodunnit" was maybe my favorite part and had me guessing all the way to the end. Madeline Hunter has written a fantastic novel with an ending that invites more to the story. I very much look forward to revisiting this family and characters again in future books from this series. I give this book a solid five stars and would recommend to anyone who loves historical romance or mysteries.
