I started this book with so many doubts. I haven’t read a new series in awhile and let’s just say that my faith has been restored.

The characters were absolutely amazing. I loved how Laia grew and changed so much. I also loved Elias and how he struggled between his freedom and his expectations. Even the villains were developed freakishly well. I LOVE THIS BOOK

Took a while for the plot to build but then it was fantastic! This author really hates her characters in the best way haha

loved loved loved this! was slow at the start but I got hooked so fast and loved the plot twists and development. Characters Elias and Laia are so likeable and their development is so fun and interesting to see! absolutely shocked at the ending and eager to dive into book 2

This was a reread for me, but it was as excellent as the first time I read it. I love the schemes, the politics, the questionable alliances. I loved watching Laia's transformation, her bravery, and her tenacity. Elias was equally as impressive. He sacrificed so much to save Laia and his soul. The setting, based on the ancient Roman Empire, was harsh and brutal, where the lines between allies and enemies blur. Compelling, emotional, and a great start to a series.
