Very good Poirot story. I can just imagine Agatha going to the dentist and seeing everyone around her cringing just at the thought of what is coming next, and thinking "this is the perfect place" and 'what if...?" The result is a fiendish murder, brilliantly choreographed. She also turned certain aspects around to great effect.
Once more, Christie used nursery rhymes as inspiration and it seems, to structure her story too. Such a weird idea and yet it works extremely well.
One, two,
Buckle my shoe;
Three, four,
Knock at the door;
Five, six,
Pick up sticks;
Seven, eight,
Lay them straight:
Nine, ten,
A big fat hen;
Eleven, twelve,
Dig and delve;
Thirteen, fourteen,
Maids a-courting;
Fifteen, sixteen,
Maids in the kitchen;
Seventeen, eighteen,
Maids a-waiting
Nineteen, twenty,
My plate's empty.

A comforting re-read which wasn't a problem as I'd forgotten quite a lot of this story.

One of the later Poirot mysteries and enjoyed the allusions to espionage in this one that kept the great detective guessing until the end.
This was a decent Poirot novel, with the usual cast of suspicious characters, red herrings, and seemingly unrelated clues. I got a little bit confused with the various false identities, stolen identities, and double bluffs, so that I'm still not entirely sure I followed the whole solution to the case, but they may be partially a result of listening to it on audio. It's definitely not one of the worst, but not one I'd go out of my way to recommend as an example of Christie's genius.

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe by Agatha Christie
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
Just from the title alone I thought this one was a collection of short stories and I was wrong. Also, I was delighted that Poirot is actually the main story teller of this one and not a dull sidekick or unreliable narrator perp.
The mystery however was very convoluted with so many people and theories I lost my way most of the book and just ended up along for the ride.

Yes! This is exactly the kind of setup I want in a Poirot tale. I want him to go to the dentist, and for that dentist to mysteriously die immediately after, and for Poirot to take the case because he liked his dentist. Then what follows is a twisty, deftly misleading, pulpy mystery woven through with a baffling children's poem. Just the thing.
