Wow, I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy this given I'm not a HUGE theatre person & went in expecting that reading a script would be lackluster compared to watching it, but I thoroughly enjoyed these! All 4 of them are absolutely gripping, and good god this is the most concentrated gold I've ever read from Camus. Caligula hit me like a load of bricks, and the sheer poetry of every line in all of the plays is just incredible. It makes me want to be an actress, because god these CHARACTERS! Camus's characters are always great, but these are some of his strongest examples. No character is 100% right or 100% wrong, and the dialogues/arguments between them are all so engaging and understanding; they remind me of my favorite Dostoevsky scenes. I love authors having rhetorical arguments with themselves without strawmanning the "other side"—it's such a simple concept that so many authors fail to achieve, but man, Camus does an incredible job here.
