I loved this book. I thought it was fast-paced, fun, and dark - one of the better fantasy books I’ve read recently.
Stella reminded me of my grandma a bit; I loved her and Lucky’s relationship.
The characters were complex and loveable, the plot was unique and well-written and it was overall a great book.
The only qualms I have are that o wish the other witches had more character development and we learned more of their backstories, and I do feel like there were some minor plot holes that I wish had been tied up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It is very cheesy and you do have to suspend your disbelief at certain points, but the story is interesting and the epilogue really wraps it all together. Def a silly little spooky season read!

I'd say this was solid throughout but never jumped into amazing or great for me. Some things were kinda weak and some were unexplained, so I felt it could've been stronger but I never disliked it

I freaking loved this book… deep inside you get family and the importance of taking care of them, especially your elders, you learn of friendship and how that too can be family, you learn the importance of women through history and how they’ve been treated can come back to haunt you, on the surface you get an adventure of many women but mostly of a grandmother and granddaughter searching for something they hadn’t known they had lost, filled with love and humor and kicking ass and taking names… this is my favorite book I’ve read this year and it needs to be a series or a movie or both… and that ending, bravo!
A delicious novel of gathering together as women, as witches, from various backgrounds and seeming limitations to support each other and ultimately band together to break the patriarchy. It was healing to imagine a world in which not only sisterhood, but motherhood and elder care are not only valued and fully supported, but recognized as sources of communal power and strength. Lucky St James is a young woman struggling to make rent and care for her grandmother with dementia when she stumbles upon an artifact that will connect her to a rising coven of North American witches. There's interesting magic of all kinds featured here, including some dream magic that I might want to attempt, myself.
I’ve read other reviews.
Does this book have the strongest plot? No.
Do all of the pieces make sense in the end? No.
Did I enjoy listening to it from beginning to end? Yes. Especially the end.
It was fun. It was smart. The characters are awesome.
It won’t haunt me the way Hunting by Stars does.
Still glad I read it, though.
