Parts of this I really enjoyed but I feel like it dragged at times and was hard to stay engaged in the whole time. Legit CW for dementia -
Stella’s dementia
is a consistent plot point in this book.

the writing is a little chunky? especially in the beginning… like the first 5 chapters I understood every words but had no idea what they were about?
The writing can also get cringy sometimes. For example:
  • Therese looked up, to see Jay Christos in all his charismatic glory. Long, sleek hair, black as a raven; smooth skin shadowed around the hard jawline with soft stubble, the kind you wanted to feel on your skin, preferably the inside of your thigh. (WTF so random???)
  • Tall enough to need a stepladder, hot enough to get on your knees, and sha had one though. Money. And then one more: Yum. (WTF)

so many weird and random sex scenes? why?

Some of her characters are written pretentiously cool, and ironically, exactly how I feel about the book.

I do like the idea that hiding in plain sight, VenCo = Coven

Ahh I just don’t like the writing!

  • What we really are is a fire that can burn down the system that holds us, that holds you and Stella, that keeps you small and struggling.
  • Witches were not all killed by fire. We are fire.

I really don’t like the way those witches tell their individual stories, like a very cliche movie, we go into one of the witches’ story of becoming a witch, and then switch back to the round-table, and then repeat that for every single witch…

Fun read. Second part of book was faster and more interesting than the first half. Loved the mix of characters and the powerful woman theme running throughout.

For a book that tried so hard to not be too girl boss-y, it was exceedlingly girl boss-y.

(Seven women will form a coven and somehow cure war and famine and everything bad with the world? Doesn't matter how LGBTQ+ friendly you are, there's something fundamentally flawed in this idea that this is what is (and is the only thing that is) going to lead to change. And okay, the epilogue tones it down a little bit, but inherently the way the stakes in VenCo are framed don't really convey the message that I think the author wanted to send.)
