I don’t understand why this is so famous, except for as a means to understand more about the Beat Generation. It was terrible. Just terrible. Just him rambling about his road trips- no development, no plot, no meaning. Just rambling and on and on! And from such a boring, entitled perspective! The way he talks about women and minorities makes me want to go back in time and punch him in the face. This was somehow both boring and rage inducing.

it’s the story of frantic, creative young men exploring America when it was still wild and untamed, which is to say that they reduce all others- women, people of color, gay people, etc- to their most interesting and most superficial elements. Otherwise, a cool read. Makes one want to road trip.

I enjoyed this much more this time around. It’s just downright fun. There is so much energy, it really is a great palette cleanser. Part 3 is genuinely fantastic, and the rest of it is mostly just kicks.
