I don't even know how to begin to describe how much I hated every single aspect about this book.

This has to be one of the worse classics I've ever consumed. I listened to it on audiobook and was SO relieved when it ended because I hated it that much. If this wasn't on the BBC challenge list, I wouldn't have finished it. But completing that list is one of my hyper-fixations, so what can you do?
The book is so plotless, just wondering from one location to another with characters that are just lifeless and annoying. And at every stop there's an offensive remark about women, people of color, or Queer folk. Listen, I understand that classics will have some of that, by the nature of the period they were written in, but I've read a lot of classics, and this book has an excessive amount of racism, sexism, and queerphobia even by classic standards.
For instance, at one point our protagonist wishes he was a Black slave in the antebellum south who 'doesn't have a care in the world'
He also states at one point that he has it worse than a poor Mexican or an overworked Japanese person because he is a disillusioned White man.
You can't make this up! Also, someone else said this on goodreads, but it is worth mention here. This book effect the view on American male coolness for worse, and I can't unsee it. Unless, you are reading for school or a challenge, I can't recommend it. This is easily the worse book I've done yet on the BBC challenge.

Wow!!! I've never read something like this. Kerouac writes something that feels more like a burst of emotion, light and experience, so much so that I forget I'm reading prose. I love the gentle and warm way Kerouac speaks of the world and the people he loves so much, surrounded by the pushing, bending buzz of a manic life where you go, go, go!!! A book has never made me hear jazz before. I'm so glad I stuck with this story. Now I want more Jack.

Two things, Kerouac would love this but also the slow paced and terrible characters sneak up and stab you in the heart every couple pages for some sad tense and reflective reason
