These books are my new favorite books.

For some reason, when I first picked Legendborn, I only read the first few chapters. Blame it life or something else, but I paused on reading it. However, when I picked it up again, I simply couldn't put it down. I read Legendborn and couldn't wait to get my hands on Bloodmarked.

The world, the characters, the dynamics, the details, the author's take on the legend we all know--such a breath of fresh air. Tracy Deonn's writing and mind will never cease to amaze me, honestly.

These books are easily some of my favorite reads this year. The third book cannot come fast enough!

My thoughts are all over the place right now, so let me break down this review into two pieces: 1) I am obsessed with this book and this series, and I cannot wait to read the rest of it, no matter how long I have to wait for book 4.

2) This book was fabulous, but also had a couple of holes for me. First, why did Bree have zero training and still outclass a bunch of people who had trained for their whole lives? I know this is a common take, but it's so valid. I love an overpowered character, but I love it when I feel like they've earned it, and Bree didn't really DO that much other than just be instantly decent to amazing.

Second, and this is just my taste so do with it what you will, this book felt a bit scattered plotwise. It's hard for me to nail down, but I think maybe there wasn't enough foreshadowing in book one for how insane this book got, which made the insanity feel like it came a bit more out of nowhere. In book one, all of the insanity still felt like it was foreshadowed enough or at least was in the same realm as the rest of the book, but I feel like we went not from 0 to 100 but from 100 to 1 billion, if that makes sense. It feels like the fabric of the world shifted, and that's not how I usually feel when there's been sufficient setup and foreshadowing.

All in all, I think Legendborn was better written than Bloodmarked, but I still really enjoyed this book.

I’m giving it 5 because I just spent the last 7 hours reading straight through the last of it. However, anger doesn’t begin to describe my feelings. So well written and absolutely painfully beautiful.
