Every male character’s pedophilia gave me the ick. This was probably not where I should have started with Octavia butler. I sure hope it’s not a problem with EVERY book.

Reading this book I see Butler’s influence on some of the younger Black fantasy writers popular today. This was a really good book the only thing I didn’t like is that the protagonist looks like a 10 year old even though she 53 and no one had a problem with having sexual interactions with her and that made me kinda uncomfortable reading all the intimate and sex scenes knowing she looks like a 10 year old child but I’m sure a more mature reader won’t have these problems. I highly recommend the book especially if you like Octavia Butler, fantasy with Black characters, vampire books, and classic revenge stories.

Octavia's writing is phenomenal and was completely on board with the story, but I just can't deal with the 30 something man having sex with a 11 year old. Mind, she's a 53 year old vampire, it was just too much for me and just completely put me off the whole book.
