DNF. Boring, a bit confusing, simply couldn’t get into it despite my many attempts
i really enjoyed this book, and i love the mysterious narrator and his worries..also chocolate is a temptation no one can resist, so he's justified. max-ernest is such a vibe, and cass is the kind of person you'd want to be around in an emergency. also the note at the end was signed P.B. which is also the initials of the author.. it's a pretty cool thing. i am also jealous of cass's backpack (chapter zero, which, btw, is a funny concept) which can turn into a tent, a parachute, and a life vest. oh boy..if only Nike sold that lmao~ if you liked books like lemony snicket, nancy drew or the lemoncello series, this is another one to add to your never-ending TBR.
I fully read this book as a freshman in high school as a pick me up type of novel since I needed a bit of joy and happiness. I can say that the narrative and the voice of the narrator is so strong that I enjoyed every minute of it. While childish, it gave me quite a bit of food for thought and laughter along the way. I loved the way that this book was written in a manner that I had never experienced before with names and places being completely hidden from the reader. Instead a quirky narrator passes the reader small quips of information that make the storyline all the more fun.
This book is incredibly fun. I adored the way it was written, I love the story-line and the characters. I highly recommend it, especially if you want a lighthearted but still thrilling book.

Long ago, when I was a kid, I read the fourth book in this series without ever reading any of the other ones. Now, as a 19 year old, I decided to go back and read the whole series.
The reason that book appealed to me was because it broke all the rules other authors followed. And this is the exact reason I loved this one too.
Pseudonyms Bosch might be the coolest children's writer I've read. And he is the reason I am going to read more children's literature. I don't know WHY I wasted so many years reading stupid YA Romance when I could've read stuff like this. But I guess, the older you are when reading the Secret Series, the more fun you have. Especially if you are unwilling to grow up, like ME! (Or even the writer himself.)
Reading this book made me realise that maybe it's not too late to start reading Harry Potter too. I never read the series thinking I would get bored. I've never liked books that were in series. They demand a commitment and I hate commitments. I guess, I have to give HP a shot too.
Coming back to this book, I enjoyed it. I really did. And I think these books should be more popular among children as well as adults.
Cass was one of the most interesting main characters I've read. She was not annoying and was so natural and awkward at the same time that I wish I had read her as a child. I really wish I read this book first rather than the fourth one because Cass did not make the same impact on me as she did in this book.
I highly recommend this book for all ages and especially for people who love breaking rules.
I am gonna go and read the second book now.
