the narrative voice in this book was really good and is ultimately what kept me engaged. part 1 of this book was exactly what i came here looking for. it was an in depth critique of click up economics, capitalism as a whole and the way our human experience has been dulled through the likes of our tiny pocket computers. SO GOOD!! the push for collective change is necessary and the conclusion wrapped things up nicely.
however, -after part one, before the conclusion- the rest of the book takes a self-help sort of turn. i honestly feel like these should have been two separate books. both were good in their own respect, just weird to put them together. i see what gambuto was trying to do, relating subscriptions to netflix with subscriptions to shitty friends, but it fell a little flat to me. that is more of a one off metaphor and less of a - 180 pages of the book.
