Welp, I think 1.5 GoT books is about all I have in me. Abandoning ship. N and I were reading this together but it's been ages since we picked it up and it was becoming a chore even before that (we started a YEAR ago). How about someone just cuts together all the Arya and Tyrion chapters from the rest of the series and gives them to me?

the one problem with having watched the show first is that certain scenes have been slightly reworked on screen to really pump up the melodrama. as a result those same scenes in the book don't feel as emotionally impactful as they likely would otherwise. if Martin just had the same flair for dramatic pacing as he does for world building, state-craft, and lavish banquets this would easily be a 5 star read
