I really enjoyed this instalment of ASOIAF - probably one of my favourites so far. It gives so much detail to the world and the politics of the story are so interesting and engaging.

Ah, nog een gigantisch boek met gigantisch veel karakters. Sommige van hen zijn heerlijk (Arya, Jon), hier en daar is er iemand behoorlijk saai (Catelyn, Tyrion, heel sporadisch Sansa) een aantal zeer fascinerend (Bran, Davos), dan zijn er twee doodvermoeiend (Tyrion, Theon) en eentje duidelijk door een man geschreven (Daenerys),- maar het boek is ontzettend spannend en het is een ijzersterk verhaal. Het is alles wat het moet zijn en George R.R. Martin brengt je in een wereld waar je alleen maar meer van wilt.

This guy--what an imagination. My favorite parts were Davos' narratives (especially when he sees why he has to transport the red woman) and when Dany has to go into the House of the Undead. It's an easy novel to read, and is engaging the whole time. An excellent book by any standards, but an especially excellent sequel.

Even better than the first. No other series I’ve read has this many characters and yet still manages to make all of their plot lines throughly entertaining. Prose is also downright beautiful at times
