We know no king but the king in the north whose name is Stark.
A slow paced buildup to the battle of the Blackwater, the second book follows each character as they prepare for war. Bran, Arya, Sansa and lord Davos are my favorite to read from. Sir Davos is indeed one of my favorite characters via TV show and it was wonderful to see him as a pov character.
I hid with Bran in the crypts under Winterfell and wondered what evil awaits outside, hoping and praying that Maester Luwin's death was just for the tv show. And they I watched the man whose neck hung low with chains of knowledge die by the godswood.
I took Sansa's hand and called her my little bird just like the Hound does and told her to tame the furry she has in her soul, to hold it down till the time was right. But time is never right.
There, in Harrenhal, I witnessed Arya become the ghost of a wolf. Everyone knows Harrenhal is cursed, that ghouls haunt those blacken halls. But in truth, there are not ghosts, the ghosts were the faceless men. Arya and Jaqen. A girl speaks names, a man will do the rest.
Going through the battle of the Blackwater was hard. The descriptions were heavy, with many names. I counted hundreds of ships, thousands of knights as young as spring. Still, Martin's style of describing war was hard to keep up with, as there is no glory in these scenes. Martin presents the harsh reality of war, the blood, guts, the men breaking lines and running for their lives. He talks about rape and children being murdered. As Sir Jorah said "There is a beast in every man and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand."
