There’s a few spots that I wish had been elaborated on a little more, but overall a good light read.

Initially, I had no idea what this book was going to be about. The first few chapters hop between present day and the past, which I understand was done to help the reader understand the characters, environment, and setting of the bookshop. While I wasn't fully into the book those first few chapters, because that initial work was done, I was then able to get fully into the story when more characters were introduced. I won't lie, after the initial set-up, I felt like I was hit in the face with a ton of characters and had to really work to keep track of them all. But once I got that bit sorted out, I really enjoyed the story! I love books about small communities where everyone's stories are connected, and this was just that. We see how the bookshop plays a pivotal role for many of the characters and we see love develop between several of the characters, and I'm not just talking about romantic love. Overall, this is a great "fluffy" read, which I'd recommend more for fall/winter time than spring/summer. Regardless, if you're looking for a feel good British story, this is one!

After the death of her dad, Emilia Nightingale inherits Nightingale Books, her dad’s bookshop which he ran for years with love and passion. Emilia knows how much the bookshop meant to her dad, so she vows to take over and keep the bookshop alive in his honor.

But soon Emilia discovers that Nightingale Books is in trouble: it hasn’t been turning in profits for a while now, and her dad left too much debt. She knew how generous her dad was, and it did not surprise Emilia to know that he often gave away books to customers for free when the situation called for it.

But Emilia also discovers just how much her dad was loved by the community. When news of his death came out, she realized just how these personal connections her dad nurtured over the years can also be Emilia’s and Nightingale Books’ saving grace.

This was such a joy to read! It’s a sweet and charming book with adorable characters. They’re all customers of Nightingale Books, and they all have stories to tell. It’s so comforting, warm, and cozy―just like its books that fill the shelves and this little bookshop in the beautiful town of Peasebrook.

Fun little romance novel that was the right book at the right time for me. It even takes place in the fall our current and my favourite season! I was a bit surprised that this wasn't quite as booky as I would have hoped. Don't get me wrong, books and reading get plenty of attention, but I wasn't quite expecting the Love Actually format with tonnes of characters. A bit too many in my opinion, at times I was a little disappointed when we were introduced to yet another one when what I really wanted to do was read more about the earlier ones. This in the end caused for a lot of the story lines to be wrapped up a little too quickly and easily because she seemed to be running out of time. That is my only complaint though. Well that and I had a ship that didn't quite pan out, but I suppose that is rather subjective. It was fun, a light read with some surprising and very touching sad moments sprinkled in and a beautiful setting. It really delivered what I expecting from such a little novel. I enjoyed it.

"A town without a bookshop is a town without a heart"

this book had me hooked since the chapter going back to 1983 and how Juilus met Emilia's mother and what happened. I cried during the scene at hospital thirty two year after, when Emila is beside her father's bedside. I couldn't imagine what that feels I'm lucky to have both parents.
