The blurb mentioning yōkai was what made me want to read this book. However, it ended being much more than just about Japanese folklore.
Didn't connect with the characters but I did like Aiko. The ending felt rushed, but enjoyable overall.
Left me wanting to find more to read about yōkai.

Kids anime that my son watches.

It's a thriller, and not a great one. Definitely not the billed supernatural horror, in spite of the unresolved inclusion of folkloric elements that try to tilt the narrative in that direction while providing too facile an explanation for the titular affliction.
i just think the author could’ve done so much more with this book

The Fervor's strength comes from the history it's embroiled in, the different characters whose lives intersect, and the author's attention to detail. The characters are well-written and fleshed out and feel the most realistic compared to Katsu's The Hunger and The Deep. The ending felt more anti-climatic than her other works. This was by no means a wrong choice, the end made sense, so I'm chalking this up to more of a preference.
The real scary monsters in this one are the Americans. The story itself was kind of slow.
I was not expecting to love this story as much as I did. Alma Katsu has become a favorite of mine and I will automatically buy anything she writes.
This breathtaking, Mindblowing novel has all the elements for a story to make your heart skip a beat. Set in WWII's internment camps, theres a mix of Historical Fiction, Mythology, Japanese Folk tales, Horror.
The novel has a slow start but be patient because it will take your breath away once you give in the story.
It was though provoking, suspenful, shocking and I was fascinated by it all.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group for providing me a copy of this excellent novel.
