I wasn't all that fond of this story to begin with, but I might not hate it so much if I hadn't had to summarize this story about 25 times. As it is, I did have to summarize it about 25 times, and I do hate it. *Shrugs* It is what it is.

I saw the black and white movie for this years and years ago and it's been on my tbr ever since. It's a very quick read, and not very emotionally investing, relying almost exclusively on dialogue and physical descriptions, or using words like "fear" and "scared", as in "he was scared". But that was also the style/convention of how things were written at the time this was published I'm sure.
My particular version was in a story collection and could definitely have used some editing as there were several cringy misspellings and other typos. But those errors actually made me wonder in 2 different spots if sections had been cut out, because the jump in time and focus from one line to the next (one had a section break, but one didn't) was so massive it felt like too much time had been skipped and that at least a bit of writing must have been removed.
