I think my school should stop making me read anti-female short stories about men wanting vengeance by death.
I didn't love this short story but I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. I think it's a well-crafted story and it did have its enjoyable moments. I think it might just have been the fact that I'm not the target demographic. I bet my grandfather would enjoy this, as would my best friend's dad who is a fan of hunting. But me, a female high schooler reading an almost one-hundred-year-old story about men hunting each other (and it didn't have any women in it either), well that doesn't really match. I would say it had an interesting plot, though. It was about a man who got stranded on an island and met a man who wanted to hunt him down in a game. The ending was pretty ambiguous, but I think it worked well for the story. It was also very descriptive in a good way, meaning that I could picture the story in my head, and I could actually understand the words the writer was using. However, the main character was boring but also annoying, and that did detract from the story. I don't really know how to explain this, but the character was chaotic and an alpha male and annoying (he didn't annoy me SO much but he just made me roll my eyes for a few seconds). Also, the plot was intriguing, but not enough to keep me hooked after reading. I liked the story and what was going on WHILE I was reading, but afterwards I thought, was that really interesting? Why did I like that? My interest was extremely inconsistent.
(Not going to lie, I really wanted to hate this book so I would have something to rant about but unfortunately it was just mediocre.)

''1.5 stars''

I wonder what's so pleasing about it keeping in view the reviews and ratings of the readers. It's supposed to be a short story that hasn't excited me in any way.

One of the best short stories I've ever read.

I had to read it for school.....it was weird

I picked up this short story because of a discussion I was having about Predator (I was in an argument about IP actually). As I was discussing, I suddenly realized that Predator was The Most Dangerous Game. I was surprised to realize just how close Predator came to the original story. Granted a 1 hour story (I listen to pretty much everything) is going to take some fluff to make into a feature length movie out of it, but much of the hunt between the Predator and Dutch (Arnie) seemed lifted directly from this book. Hiding within the trees and being overlooked, the setting of traps and materials used, etc. The only real difference was the Predator nukes himself in the end, not something that could really happen in 1924...

I wish that this was longer. We discussed this in my English class and no one had the same view I did, so I wonder how the author would have carried on.
